Rand from SEOmoz.org wrote an excellent summary of the most common mistakes made by big brands. Many of these mistakes are also made by small companies. The most common mistake we've seen is duplicate content, which Rand talks about under "Content Distribution & Partnerships."
OCTOBER U.S. SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS
Google gained 0.3 percent market share and now receives 45.4 percent of all internet searches. Yahoo came in second with 28.2 percent marketshare (+0.1). MSN was third with 11.7 percent marketshare (-0.2). Ask.com received 5.8 percent of all searches and AOL (fed by Google) received 5.2 percent. So, all other search engines combined for 3.7 percent of marketshare.
